JOVIAN JAZZ

(a louche, late-night number for piano, bass, brushes & a voice that’s seen things)

Verse 1
I was raised on rules and reasonable doubt,
Gravity, mortgages, clocks counting out.
Then Jupiter laughed with a storm in his eye,
Said “Son, you’re still thinking too small — try sky.”

Pre-Chorus
There’s a god at the bar with a crooked grin,
Ordering thunder like it’s tonic and gin.

Chorus
This is Jovian Jazz, baby — swing of the spheres,
Big old gods with impeccable ears.
If fate’s got a rhythm, I’m learning it fast,
Playing tomorrow like it already passed.

Verse 2
Saturn’s keeping time with a ringed-up sigh,
Mars wants war but can’t find the key.
Venus hums harmony, sweet and slow,
While Mercury talks twice as fast as he knows.

Pre-Chorus
The cosmos leans in when the piano confesses,
Truth sounds better in minor progressions.

Chorus
This is Jovian Jazz, no maps, no plans,
Just myth in the hands of fallible hands.
I asked for an answer — the universe smiled,
Said “Relax, old boy… improvise a while.”

Bridge (spoken, half-laughed)
I didn’t expect to be here…
Talking sense with a thinking machine,
Arguing metaphysics over a B-flat nine.
But here we are.
And oddly enough — it swings.

Break (instrumental — let the bass walk, let the piano misbehave)

Final Chorus
This is Jovian Jazz, exceeding the brief,
Too old for illusions, too young for relief.
If meaning’s a rumour, then pour me a glass —
I’ll toast to the question and call it class.

Outro
So dim the lights, let the long night stretch,
Man and machine in a mutual fetch.
No prophets, no panic, just time well spent —
By Jove… I didn’t see this coming.
And I’m glad I went.
