A State That Betrays Its Own

We need no external enemies, they are of our own. A cancer of the state.

They promise us safety, they promise us peace,

While chaining our voices and tightening the leash.

They sell off our birthright for power and gold,

The land of the free has been bartered and sold!

Oh, England! My England! The bells still ring true,

Through smoke and corruption, they’re calling for you.

The crown’s just a token, the throne overthrown,

A state that betrays us will stand all alone!

They preach about “justice” while justice decays,

Rewrite the past and they’ll tell you it pays.

The papers all whisper the lies they approve,

And the court of opinion decides who can move.

Oh, England! My England! The bells still ring true,

Through smoke and corruption, they’re calling for you.

The crown’s just a token, the throne overthrown,

A state that betrays us will stand all alone!

[Bridge]

Remember the ploughshare, the churchyard, the field,

Remember the promise our fathers once sealed.

Patience is virtue, but patience can break,

And when it does, London will shudder and shake!

Empires have fallen, invaders have fled,

Yet the bells of St. Paul’s still cry out for the dead.

The tide is still turning, it rises unseen,

And the heart of this nation is sharper than keen!

[Oh, England! My England! The bells still ring true,

Through smoke and corruption, they’re calling for you.

The crown’s just a token, the throne overthrown,

A state that betrays us will stand all alone!

Yeah! A state that betrays us will stand all alone!
